Restoring More Than We Use

Peatlands are one of the world’s most important natural ecosystems.

The Peatland Restoration Foundation brings together organisations that use peat commercially to ensure that more peatland is restored than is used.

Our vision is simple:

To restore more than we use.

By creating a collaborative industry initiative, we provide a clear and accessible pathway for peat-using companies to support the restoration of peatland landscapes.

Supported by both NatureScot and the Scotch Whisky Association, and founded by a group of likeminded food and drink companies, the Foundation represents a new model for responsible stewardship of peatland environments.

Together, we are helping to restore damaged peatland ecosystems and protect these landscapes for future generations. If your organisation uses peat commercially, the Foundation offers a straightforward and credible pathway to support peatland restoration.

about us

Our belief is that our sum is greater than our parts.

The Peatland Restoration Foundation provides makes it possible for any company, big or small, to have an accessible pathway to helping restore peatlands.

By working together, companies can achieve far greater environmental impact than they could individually.

Our founding members include some of the world’s leading whisky producers, and by December 2025, together we have already completed our first peatland restoration project.

founding members

The Foundation was created by five likeminded companies who believed that an  industry wide collaboration was the solution to restoring more peatlands than are currently used.

PEAT'D is a Scottish food brand that produces the world's only range of tomato sauces cold-smoked for 16 hours over Scottish peat to create a rich, deep, and complex flavor profile.

Founded by former whisky industry professional Hannah Brown, the company utilizes whisky-inspired smoking techniques and supports peatland regeneration by donating a percentage of sales to local conservation efforts.

Bruichladdich is a progressive Islay distillery, established in 1881 and resurrected in 2001, that is renowned for its Victorian-era craftsmanship and B Corp certification. The company produces three distinct single malt brands—unpeated Bruichladdich, heavily peated Port Charlotte, and super-heavily peated Octomore—alongside The Botanist gin, all while maintaining a strict commitment to local Islay agriculture and on-island maturation.

Suntory Global Spirits is a leading premium spirits producer and a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Suntory Holdings. Headquartered in New York City, the company owns a world-class portfolio that includes iconic brands like Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, and Yamazaki, as well as the global gin brands Roku and Sipsmith.

InchDairnie Distillery is a technologically advanced Lowland producer in Fife, established in 2015 by industry veteran Ian Palmer to challenge Scotch whisky conventions through engineering and B Corp-certified sustainability. The distillery is noted for its innovative seasonal production—using a hammer mill, mash filter, and a bespoke Lomond Hill still—to create diverse spirits including their inaugural RyeLaw fife single grain and upcoming vintage single malts.

Isle of Raasay Distillery, founded in 2014 and opened in 2017, is the first legal distillery on the Hebridean island of Raasay, dedicated to reviving a centuries-old tradition of illicit distilling through its "people and place" ethos. The distillery produces a signature lightly peated single malt and a handcrafted Hebridean gin, uniquely offering luxury overnight accommodation within the same building as its working production hall.
